Parenting Support

“One generation of deeply loving parents would change the brain of the next generation, and with that, the world.”

— Charles Raison

Dr. Joy often hears parents say, “Those parenting books just don’t work for my kid!” or “I’ve tried everything!” Many traditional approaches are designed with neurotypical families in mind, which can leave some parents feeling stuck. She focuses on supporting neurodiverse families with strategies tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Dr. Joy understands how meaningful and challenging it is to be a parent and seeks to empower caregivers by emphasizing strengths and supporting regulation. She also helps parents work together as a team, drawing on each of their strengths to create a more effective and supportive approach to parenting.

Dr. Joy applies her specialized training in neurodivergence to supporting parents who have neurodivergent children (e.g., ASD, ADHD, Learning Differences, Giftedness, Highly Sensitive, or Sensory Processing Differences, etc).  Dr. Joy also helps families navigate school systems, referrals, and access support while sharing current research about various forms of neurodivergence.

A flexible approach designed to meet your specific needs:

  • One-time consultations, as-needed check-ins, and ongoing appointments (weekly, biweekly, or monthly)

  • Sessions are 45 minutes long and can be over telehealth or in-person

  • Parents report feeling more empowered and peaceful at home.

  • A range in the rate is offered, and parents decide what their family can manage; the rate ranges from $175 to $275

Family Therapy

We heal through our relationships.  Stress turns into resilience when we have connections where we feel seen and understood.  Family therapy offers a unique opportunity to build resilience by supporting communication, regulation, and connection within our family and ourselves.  Dr. Joy uses her extensive knowledge of neuroscience to highlight how stress affects our nervous system, thus enabling families to identify their own stress triggers and ways to return to a regulated state.

Sessions include:

  • Learning about nervous system regulation

  • Building coping skills and communication skills

  • Repture & Repair

  • Inner & outer compassion

She uses relational theoretical orientations, including Polyvagal Theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment theory, and Psychodynamic Theory.
