Parenting Support

One generation of deeply loving parents would change the brain of the next generation, and with that, the world.” —Charles Raison

Dr. Joy often hears parents say, “Those parenting books just don’t work for my kid!” or “I’ve tried everything!”  This is often because many books and current strategies are geared toward neurotypical families.   Dr. Joy specializes in supporting families with neurodiversity and providing strategies based on their specific needs and children.

Neurodiversity-affirming parenting support allows parents to gain insight, information, and skills on how best to support their child. Dr. Joy understands how meaningful and challenging it is to be a parent and seeks to empower caregivers by emphasizing strengths and supporting regulation.Dr. Joy helps families navigate school systems, referrals, and access support while sharing current research about various forms of neurodiversity.

The typical session begins with a short mindfulness exercise, followed by parents sharing current concerns and questions. Dr. Joy works with parents to provide concrete, helpful strategies that support warm, responsive interactions between caregiver and child.  She also encourages parents to prioritize their self-care, self-reflection and develop their strategies to be most effective. Parents report feeling more empowered and more peaceful at home.   She focuses on building regulation and co-regulation. Dr. Joy offers one-time and ongoing appointments, as well as flexible as-needed check-ins.  Sessions are 45 minutes long, can be over telehealth or in-person, and the rate ranges from $175 to $250.  Sliding scale options are available.
