Dr. Joy Malik-Hasbrook is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Los Angeles area who has dedicated the past 15 years to supporting families. Dr. Joy provides psychotherapy services for children, adolescents, adults, and families, in addition to parenting support (ages 0-18) and comprehensive psychological assessment services (ages 3-18). She utilizes a developmental approach that integrates current neuroscience research and mindfulness to strengthen well-being and build resiliency.   

Dr. Joy specializes in supporting children and adults who have experienced trauma and toxic stress.  She offers a clear understanding of the impact of trauma on development, creating a sense of safety combined with effective healing practices. In particular, Dr. Joy focuses on how healing and resiliency are strengthened through healthy, loving relationships.

In her work with parents, Dr Joy seeks to empower and support parents to be their best selves as they manage the challenges and the gifts that parenting brings. For both parents and children, Dr. Joy focuses on stress management and supporting inner calm and regulation. Her assessments are known to be highly comprehensive, informative, and empowering for both the child and families. Her clients appreciate her warm, respectful, and holistic style.  Dr. Joy's foundation and theoretical orientations include Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment Theory, and Relational Psychodynamic theory.  

Involvement in the community is exceptionally important to Dr. Joy, and she has a strong reputation with local public and independent schools. Additionally, she has treated many children experienced  foster care settings and adoption.  She is deeply committed to equality and the belief that all families should be able to access effective and empowering therapeutic services.

Dr. Joy values opportunities to share her relational and integrative approach.  Currently, she is also the Director of Child, Adolescent, and Family training programs and Maple Counseling.  She also provides training and consultation for Wonder Tree in Pasadena.  Previously, she worked for many years in a community mental health setting providing services, supervision, and training.  Additionally, Dr. Joy provides ongoing supervision and training for interns at different agencies in the Los Angeles area.  She is also in the process of publishing her first children’s book.

Dr. Joy is biracial of East Indian American and Anglo American and values integrating Western and Eastern psychologies. Dr. Joy is committed to implementing anti-racist practices.  She is a California native who completed her B.A. in Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, she earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at CSPP-Alliant International University, San Francisco. Her dissertation studied the benefits of yoga as an intervention for children. Furthermore, she integrates mindfulness meditation, yogic practices, and compassion into her work with families, daily life, self-care, and as a mom of two children.
